This half-day tour includes a cooking class at a local home with an experienced and knowledgeable cook. Learn about Belizeans’ favorite dishes and enjoy the lunch prepared by you!
Explore the San Ignacio Market borders the emerald Macal River and is a walking distance from downtown San Ignacio and hotels such as Venus Hotel and Midas Belize. The Market is easily accessible seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturdays are the busiest day and perfect for visitors to sample local food such as fry jacks, tortillas, beans, white cheese, tacos, tamales, rice & bean, and much more. Due to the Saturday rush, farmers travel from far and near to sell their fresh produce and are at the Market from 3:00 a.m.
While on your tour cook with friends, taste cane juice, and soy milk and eat animal-shaped pancakes from the local Taiwanese or enjoy a healthy yogurt or baked goods from local Mennonite.
Local souvenirs are on display from handcrafted jewelry, arts, and crafts, and colorful Maya wear. Along the tour, our guide will provide information on the origin of the farmers and producers. Inhale the aromas of colorful tropical fruits and relish succulent favorite seasonal fruits, vegetables, and homemade products. After we have gathered our ingredients, we make our way home and prepare the home cook local dishes.
Our cook will guide you every step of the way as you prepare your meal. This interactive tour is filled with laughter, developing conversations, and learning different Creole dialogues and the multicultural traditions of Belize. The tour ends, tasting the delicious meal you have prepared and chatting along with our cook and other guests. After, our guide will drop you off at your hotel.
