Lamanai New River Boat Tour
The day tour starts at 6:30 am from San Ignacio with a two-hour drive along the Western and Northern Highways of Belize, relax and enjoy the ride and views of local village life, farmland, and glimpses of the Mayan Mountains.
After arriving at Carmelita Village in the Orange Walk District, guests will board a river boat and embark on a picturesque boat ride along the New River to the Lamanai Mayan Site. During the boat excursion, guests will have the opportunity to see wildlife and flora. Be sure to take your binoculars, your guide will point out birds such as black hawks, Jabiru Storks and falcons and trees, orchids, monkeys, and crocodiles sunbathing on the river banks.
There is a short jungle hike of 1.5 miles to reach the site which is nested in the lush rainforest. Explore plazas and temples on foot, and learn about the history of the Lamanai Mayan Ruin. Lamanai features the third tallest Maya structure in Belize called High Temple which is 33 meters tall and offers a panoramic view from its summit. Explore other structures such as the Lagoon temple and Jaguar Temple. The site itself hosts a family of howler monkeys and wildlife which can be seen on site. Before the Lamanai tour, guests can visit a small museum of Mayan artifacts.
Enjoy delicious Belizean cuisine and more sightseeing in the rainforest before heading back to San Ignacio.
