Background Information:

Barton Creek Cave is a stream cave that was used by the ancient Mayans as a burial site. The cave was discovered in 1970 and was later studied by archaeologists in 1998. Many ancient Mayan artifacts and human skeletons from ritual activities are found in the cave. The Barton Creek Tour is one of the most relaxing canoe experiences. We will travel inside an ancient waterway canopied by cathedral ceilings and observe numerous formations of stalagmites and stalactites.

Your tour starts at 8:00 A.M and departs to Barton Creek, it is a 45-minute drive of scenic views of towns and village life of the Cayo District. When entering Baron Creek, we will unwind to a peaceful atmosphere of the traditional Mennonite Community. At the site we will gear up, board the canoes and venture into the underworld. During the tour you will see sparkling crystal formation and learn about the Mayan history, archaeology and geology. The tour consists of exploring 1 mile of the massive 4.5 long cave which is still to be discovered. After emerging from the cave, we end the half day tour with a swim enjoying some fruits and snack before we head back to town.
